Summer Seminars - Hosted by the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce

    June 1, 2012

The Champaign County Chamber of Commerce will host a summer-long professional development series on human resources for small business owners.

Small business owners typically have talent and expertise in a special field--one that interested them enough to start a business. When owners want to grow their enterprise, increase their customer base, or expand their services/products, the obvious solution is hiring employees. It doesn't take long, however, to discover that the skills needed to handle employee issues are not the same as the skills needed to solve problems in other areas of the business. Effective Human Resources management skills and a fundamental understanding of HR practices are essential to the success of the enterprise.

The Chamber's summer-long human resources series provides business owners with proven HR techniques and best practices for handling a variety of personnel issues. Whether a business owner knows nothing about HR management or wants to improve what they are currently doing, the HR series will answer questions about recruiting, hiring, on-boarding, developing, and evaluating employees. The series will also provide valuable information, insights, and resources to address concerns about compensation and benefits, and legal and illegal practices.

    Seminars:

June 19 - Recruiting and Hiring Right, The First Time
June 21 - Providing Compensation and Benefits That Are Legally Sound and Help You Recruit and Retain
June 26 - Employees Want to Know How They Are Doing....So Tell Them
June 28 - Legal, Illegal and Questionable, Oh My! What You Don't Know Can Get You In Trouble

The series will be led by Cindy Guthrie, Director of Human Resources for the YG Financial Group, PC. All seminars will be held at the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce, 303 W. Kirby Ave, Champaign. Seminars will run from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.
